Songwriting Intensive Course with Rhythm Recognition and Live Recording

(3 Days, 3 Hours per Day)

Location: Hatzelweg 25 or Gustav-Otto-Bogen 13

Group Size: Maximum of 6-8 people

Cost per Participant: €145 per person (depending on the number of participants and fixed
costs)

Target Group:

• Musical Level: This course is aimed at musicians with basic skills on their instrument (e.g., guitar, piano, bass, drums, vocals) who can already play some simple songs. Basic music theory knowledge (e.g., chord progressions) is recommended but not mandatory
• Age Group: Teens and adults (ages 14 and up).
• Group Registration: Entire bands or groups with different instruments can sign up, or individual participants can be grouped together.

Course Structure:

Day 1: Songwriting Basics and Rhythm Recognition

• Musical Structure and Chord Progressions: Introduction to common chord progressions (e.g., IV-vi-IV) in pop, rock, and other genres.
• Rhythm Recognition and Practice: Focus on timing and rhythm. Participants will learn to
  recognize and integrate different rhythms into their songwriting, such as:
  • 4/4 time with eighth notes and sixteenth notes
  • Triplets and syncopation
  • Combining simple and complex rhythms
• Power Chords and Harmony: How to effectively use power chords and simple harmonies in songwriting.

Day 2: Collaboration and Group Songwriting

• Collaborative Writing: Participants will work in small groups (3-5 people) to develop a song
  together.
  • Theme Development: Create a theme for the song (e.g., love, friendship, challenges).
  • Lyrics and Melody: How to develop melodies and write fitting lyrics.
  • Song Structure: Building the structure of a song (verse, chorus, bridge).
• Arrangement and Refinement: Participants will work on arranging their song and experimenting with different versions to find the best fit for their idea.

Day 3: Live Recording and Video Production

• Rehearsal:The group will rehearse and fine-tune the song in the morning before recording.
• Live Recording: In the afternoon, the group will record the song live in a studio or professionally equipped rehearsal space.
• Video Recording: Additionally, the performance will be filmed live, and participants will receive a professional video recording of the final performance as a gift at the end of the workshop.

Course Content:

• Music Theory & Rhythm: Participants will learn how to effectively incorporate rhythmic structures into their songs.
• Songwriting Techniques: How to combine chords, melodies, and lyrics to create a complete
  song.
• Team Collaboration: How to work creatively in groups, sharing and implementing ideas.
• Live Recording and Performance:Participants will experience how to record live and prepare for
  a video shoot.
